Sadly, I was hospitalized in February and was in ICU for 6 days. Since then, I haven't done much of anything. Recovery from kidney failure among other things has been slow and I am just now feeling like myself again. I have been sewing some for that grandbaby who just keeps growing despite the fact that I wish we could keep her this age for longer. She is the perfect age to be my little shopping buddy and mani-pedi buddy.
Anyway I am making outfits for her to wear on her surprise Disney trip coming up next month -- Halloween themed, of course, since it's celebrated all month at Disney.
I'm also getting into creating hair ties which can be worn as bracelets, too. I have supplies to try my hand with bows and fancy flower hair bands. I will post pictures of all these soon I hope!
Take care. I'm glad if anyone reads my blog...if not, I enjoy writing anyway. Lol have a happy day!

Maybe it's because we saw Christmas personified at Disney during our Thanksgiving vacation there. All the decorations were up and carols were sung. We came back to a messy house and no Christmas decorations. We probably should have decorarted before we left -- but no time, no time. With recovering from my cataract surgery the week before, we barely got packed.

Then we were worn out before we got there. And just to let you know, I was tired all the time we were there. We stayed at the Port Orleans French Quarter Resort and I was so disappointed. The beds weren't comfortable, chairs weren't comfortable, and the food was blah. Do I sound like Mrs. Scrooge? Seriously, Motel 8 probably has better rooms. We didn't have a microwave even. We did have a mini-fridge that wasn't really what it should have been. Thank goodness for the ice machine!

Even when we had reservations for our meals (Deluxe Dining Plan, mind you), we had to wait for 1 to 2 hours to get seated. Food was frankly the last thing on my mind by the time we were seated. Most of the time we had to stand and wait. A couple of times we had a place to sit.

The only bright side to the trip was getting to see Grandbaby sometimes enjoying herself. Needless to say, we couldn't keep up with her and her parents! LOL

Sorry to be a Gripie Gussie, but I was so disappointed. Next time I want to go to Disney, I'll stay at the nearest Hampton Inn. The one where we stayed on the way back home made the Resort look like what it was. And, if you ever need a place to stay in Valdosta, GA, stay at the Hampton! Super room, super service, good food!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5700896194346457830.post-65392485106182701342011-10-14T18:50:00.000-07:002011-12-06T05:00:13.712-08:00Baby Gown for PeytonI love my first Baby Day Gown. I took a class at Material Girls Fabric Shop to learn how to do some of the basic heirloom sewing techniques. It was especially nice to have someone to gift with this first attempt. Baby Peyton was born just before I completed it. Now I can't wait to make another one! Maybe pink next time?

For this one I chose white batiste as my fabric. I had some very nice lace just crying out to be used. I wish I had more of the lace. I think it would have added to it tremendously, but I used what I had and wasn't able to find more to match. This is some left over from another plan for a dress for a toddler. The only other embellishment added was machine embroidery down the center front. This design is from a "Martha Pullen" embroidery designs for babies CD (available from www.marthapullen.com) I can't say enough about the beauty of the design. It is exquisitely perfect!

For my next baby gown I'm going to be using pink batiste with white embroidery (maybe) and tucks. Of course the fabric will be from Material Girls and the embroidery design from Martha Pullen. I don't know what was wrong with it -- probably Operator Error.

But I really wanted to let anyone know out there that Whimsical Fabrics is having a great giveaway. Just my style!!! Fabrics for the stash and patterns, too, are always on my "Wishlist" and theirs are wonderful!

I have always been so pleased with my purchases from Whimsical Fabrics. It's always a happy day when I receive my "pur(chase)prize". I love that term. I can't remember where I first heard it, but I do feel as if I have a happy day prize when my shipment arrives! Not only are the products fantastic, but they are packaged so nicely! It just makes me happy all over!

I've been super busy - making some baby gifts and of course, sewing for the now three year old grandbaby. I'm hoping that I can get some of my pictures posted before I mess up again.

Have a happy day, and don't forget the giveaway!

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5700896194346457830.post-12177883940880171602011-07-26T11:40:00.001-07:002011-10-13T23:53:15.699-07:00Summer<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 154px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzspgpip7-YJsjjKCcTh53TuSOW0n7B3B6vxt2ZY9vTd0Hg82bd1RJiywPm7HdNUcx7vZG3Qei0wiTjVB9psC44Zp2Rx6LBaWDVmDNSVGjX-c6fFATPcG_1qfK1_LOCMKTGNgyOWs1Cx6J/s200/IMG_0918+emma6.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5633733488239984978" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 195px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhplz5SfRjWBlDA8SjNxu9NdCIZxUhVEDQJ26w3f9nRdTmq-tYg58KqxFSzA5_jsWnZrHhxTKw3YJo1ZGK8x8-jhy3sf1N8YqwfhpavvfZRXps56d6aa1VS5AEKp27d4n5FKo3G-w-ctH8T/s200/IMG_0925+emma4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5633733363821222482" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 194px; height: 200px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-Htvo2LqwVWVr4DyAkyDuEtsH_R-frMuSgiEaF3cVyWv-aSrBv27RF84AIA5ao57Pa5on9iWXbCc1ubZJEY9pt88GisRM3fb7nt0Aai50H5BG81Lc3_RFeI9p0tSgisLd-VUbbbxJo1cK/s200/100_1055+Emma3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5633733216289007010" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 170px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivngflmqZicqbkcVLafLR635was3Z1eIJmmsc1PdGTB1HNM2FM3tKwloyjrxrW9ed74Ol0u7-UZaVv6nCMJI2QWKNFRVU3EudwYPVZC1sGQWXmhGz9-mW_l1bnsAV8ixjc7civvN8voQVH/s200/100_1045emma2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5633733076917111906" />
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 200px; height: 163px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUVecCObBOJ3d32GN2uVOC1VA9jh9_kdKZcRfiV-xuTVOUhtRs7P5A5WiKKTfjIYg4IdbGKIrFOdXX4ALNJO3X5Zz9SYK2caNkrwNlRotgT5iNbNWCBvIXo94ZbUboXyFJywp6gPhlZKrd/s200/100_1056+Emma+1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5633732934680371426" />

I guess it's just a fact that I can't blog more than once a month (if that). I think I'm getting much better at posting. It's been just a few days over a month since my last post. For some people that's not much progress, but if you look at my track record, I'm really doing quite well.

I've been busy, busy. I have been sewing and embroidering. I sewed a test pattern for a child's dress for www.littlelizardking.com. The pattern was an e-pattern (PDF download). It was well written with great instructions. I love the pattern and will be using it again. The picture at the top of the post shows the dress I made. Of course, I have the most beautiful model in the world. My, how she loved twirling in that dress..... she didn't want to take it off!

As you can see, we have also been to the beach. Seven wonderful days of beach house living, lying under the umbrella, listening to the surf, sunning, playing with Grand Baby, nice beach walks, Utopia!

I have also tested some embroidery/applique designs for www.originalstitches.com. I have been very busy, but I really can't say what I've been doing to be so busy. I know I've spent all my time. It's gone anyway.
Well, I have embroidered and appliqued and I've Facebooked and Facebooked and Facebooked some more. I have spent way too much time with my computer and not enough sitting down at the sewing machine. I'm really ashamed of myself. Time to stop all this nonsense. LOL Actually I have learned so much from my new embroidery friends I found in a Facebook Group. They are mostly young stay at home moms with from 1 to 6 kids, so what do I have in common with them? We all embroider or sew or craft in some way -- and I just want to mother-hen all of them, I guess. Be that as it may, they have taught me some new ins and outs to embroidery and applique, and a new appreciation of the generation that is bringing up the next generation of people. Way to go, girls.

I have decided to try to sell some of my little goodies I've made. I love making them, but you know, I don't have a place to store all that I make. And I've given away all I want to give away. So I either have to stop or sell some -- to make room for more, don't you know? (Big smile here!) So gradually, little by little, I'm getting my pictures in order to display for all to see. In the meantime, I am showing the few of you who read my blog a few things I will be showing. I hope you like them.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5700896194346457830.post-53006348162427353552011-03-30T00:06:00.000-07:002011-03-30T00:17:50.809-07:00I won third place!I can't believe I tied for 3rd place in a contest at Pickle Pie Embroidery Designs. The pacifier clip is a design from http://www.embroiderygarden.com/. The embroidery design on the diaper burp cloth is from http://www.fivestarfonts.com/. These are two of my favorite designers. The bib is an in-the-hoop design from http://www.zippydesignz.com/., another super website to check out if you love to do machine embroidery as much as I do! I loved the bib, and so did the new mom. I used a soft Super Minky in pastel pink for the front and lined it with the brown and pink cotton fabric that matches the other pieces I made for her. It is reversible, however. Wasn't I lucky to find a Minky with stars to continue the theme of bears and stars? I thought so! I also used this Minky for a ribbon blankie and a Binkie Baby (so named by Grandbaby when she took a dolly I made for her to replace her binkie). It's actually the Softie Baby Bunting by Lisa at www.PicklePieDesigns.com. I don't know how many babies have enjoyed those, Lisa. I've lost count of the ones I've made.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5700896194346457830.post-28583083507311849842011-02-27T20:00:00.000-08:002011-02-27T20:29:06.641-08:00I'm on a roll!<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhsUJEz2z_KQa2rfkYjO-azuhReFEjiLH-1SaL04RhaCc_qkPMpm6mYzj5rpUhqelB8VoXeXYglTbfrpIr30KswQXEXS_9Re_3EqpQuWnDJ3L0dviXltvjv1cHVOBsh7bUwkFZ9vrHDpNdo/s320/252.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5578592667944056162" />
I have been soooo busy! I actually feel as if I have accomplished something lately. I made inserts for 2 of the travel mugs I bought at www.embroiderygarden.com. The design that Reen sent to use with them is beautiful. A big thank you to her. The one I made for my son-in-law was done in camo with signal orange monogram. He really liked it I think. The one pictured here will always be a winner with me, because I love black and white! I still have to do my daughter's. I can't wait to show it off -- for more reasons than one!

I'm very excited. I met a new home economics teacher from one of the nearby schools. She needs some help with one of the school's sergers. Since we don't have local repairmen, I will see if I can help her with the "ancients" who are giving her problems. She told me the school will be having a craft fair in April, and they are looking for vendors. Hmmmm, I am very tempted to see if I can get some things ready for it. It would help the school and give me an excuse to sew some more!!

Please enjoy looking at a few of my things I've done. I've found some really terrific blogs to look at and some neat embroidery digitizers out there. I'll try to pass along some of those as I think of them.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5700896194346457830.post-56582535380975901512011-02-23T00:41:00.000-08:002011-02-23T01:45:14.081-08:00Embroidered FacesI discovered the neatest embroidered face designs from Huskey Designs. I get too caught up with doing and don't get along with telling about it. I guess that's why I never did keep a diary, lol. Well, I am going to put in a couple of photos to show a few of the things I've done recently -- well, since I posted last!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5700896194346457830.post-66135909314509216232010-06-20T00:05:00.000-07:002011-03-30T00:30:09.257-07:00New Outfit for EmmaI finally got back to sewing what I love best to sew! Sewing something for Emma always makes me happy. This was especially fun, because I love the idea of the lollipop -- she doesn't have them often -- they're reserved for haircut days! And of course I love anything with her name on it. I enjoyed putting the little ruffles on the short pants. They make them a little more feminine to my way of thinking. Her parents don't usually put her in frilly girly things so this is my girly fashion stamp for her. I hope she likes it. She usually voices her approval of "Cute" to the same things I like. I know she is going to be a good shopping buddy when she gets a little older. I hope you will like my sewing, too. The applique design is from Lisa of Pickle Pie Designs. Check out her blog to see the matching machine embroidery in-the-hoop hair prettie. And of course, the picture didn't work. Sorry.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5700896194346457830.post-7381115248659187222010-05-28T18:57:00.001-07:002010-05-28T19:22:43.421-07:00Has It Really Been That Long?I can't believe I have only posted one other time since February! Where does the time go? I never seem to get anything done yet I stay busy all the time. I guess time does fly when you're having fun. I must say I take great pleasure in just about every minute of my day.

I've been learning more and more about my embroidery machine and getting back into sewing. I really love the creative process and seeing the created product. It's exciting to be able to choose fabrics, threads, ribbons, and designs, and put them together. You can feel that you have taken part in creating something unique even though you have used someone else's creations to do it.

Sometimes my products are better off put in the trash can, but we usually keep them around to use as practice pieces or to look back on in a few months to see improvement (I hope).

I hope to get some pictures posted to go with this in a day or two. I have been making key fobs and paci keepers. I love the ribbon key fobs. I have opened an "Etsy shop" - Emmasmimi - if you happen upon it, you will see that my physical shop will be called "Mine by Emma's Mimi". My Emma is at the stage where she is pretty possessive of most of her toys and Mimi (me) which surprised me a bit. Thus, the name came to me because of her reaction to Poppy moving a gift bag at her birthday party, "No, no, Poppy, Mine?" LOL

We all enjoyed her birthday party. I think the adults enjoyed playing with the toys and Emma as much as she did. Of course one thing we played was "tea party". We had to teach my brother and my grown-up nephew how to play! I seem to recall that my brother would never play tea party with me when we were kids!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5700896194346457830.post-84368460344750882912010-05-10T07:41:00.000-07:002010-05-28T19:18:07.583-07:00I Am Not a Writer!One thing I have discovered is that I am no writer of sagas! Another thing I have discovered is that I am no writer. Lol. However, I am an excellent Mimi and I love to do machine embroidery and especially in-the-hoop projects.

I do so enjoy my time with Grandbaby. Since we have started understanding the sentences she has been making since she was 9 months old :) I have learned that what we've been playing under the table is "tea party". She dearly loves the little talking teapot and cups she got for Christmas. She serves little plastic petit fours on tupperware and pours tea just like a little southern lady \when she is in "tea party mode". Thanks to Jennilee at "Digistitches" I'll be making in-the-hoop play food on the embroidery machine for her 2nd birthday. We already bought the Step 2 Gourmet Kitchen for her as well. I can't wait til the end of the month to give it to her.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5700896194346457830.post-74811465374284338002010-02-17T20:29:00.000-08:002010-02-17T20:34:33.131-08:00Success!Ahhhh! It has only taken 4 hours to figure out how to get one picture on this blog! Now, my question is, do I have to go through this same procedure for each and every picture I post? And will each subsequent posting annihilate the previous picture? Hmmmmm! I just do not know.

I might get something accomplished if it didn't take me sooo long to figure out how to do something. LOL Well, I guess I have time -- but I do not have much Patience!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5700896194346457830.post-2933850476509472222010-02-17T18:53:00.000-08:002010-02-17T19:59:07.534-08:00And today is another day......And it has been a while... I have been busy, though. I am trying to keep up with emails and getting some embroidery done. I have done some in-the-hoop creations and am trying to get up the nerve now to do some lacework. I've worked on some things for one of the teachers at the local elementary school. I made some Easter goodie bags; one with a clear vinyl window and one with an appliqued bunny. I also made a crayon roll for children to easily store and keep up with crayons.

And by the way, I've been trying to upload pictures for this blog. I've had no luck whatsoever I must say! Perseverance, perseverance... I'm trying again this evening. We shall see.

Everytime we turn around, someone we know has had a sweet baby. Isn't it wonderful? I have two little gifts to send off. These are just little somethings that I was practicing making. Baby things and children's clothing are so much fun to work on. I want to make a handkerchief doll for my granddaughter, but haven't found the lace I want to use for hers. I made one for her mother when she was little, but at that time I was able to get beautiful lace that didn't cost 2 arms and a leg. The lace for Molly's doll is pretty, but I want something more for Emma's. So, I'm going to try to make some. I ordered Martha Pullen's CD for Machine Embroidery "Vintage Baby". I'll see how long it takes me to learn to do that well enough to make lace trim for Emma.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5700896194346457830.post-19287536897719803002010-01-24T12:05:00.000-08:002010-01-24T13:23:08.780-08:00January 24, 2010

Well, here we go, with my first blog entry. First of all, why am I writing this? I am so forgetful! I guess I just want to be able to remember a year from now just how I got to this point in my life. I really don't know. But I have learned some new stuff and I will share those things with you because I am proud of them and if you like them, you might want me to make some for you.

My story begins with my retirement. My original plan was to spend a great deal of my first summer sitting under a beach umbrella watching seagulls strut and occasionally get a little rowdy when they fought over a bit of food that had washed up on the shore at Melbourne Beach. That plan had included spending my first winter of retirement walking barefoot along the shores of Melbourne, feeling the slight chill of the wind in my face and on my legs. You probably have guessed by now that I had no intention of ever, ever living anywhere but Melbourne Beach ever, ever again.

You are probably asking what this has to do with embroidery and where is the saga? Lots of people retire to the beach, right? No big deal. Well, if you haven't already found out life is not something that is planned out and scheduled and ticked off in a date book. Life changes people and people change lives. Somebody probably said that sometime or other and it's so true.

My change of plans began with some little changes around me and grew! LOL! That is more true than I ever imagined. The first one I suppose that really wasn't going to have that big an impact on "my plan" was my daughter's pregnancy. Now I was going to be a "Mimi"! That was a momentous, wonderful occurrence! I was very, very happy, but I was pretty sure that she and her husband were going to be moving around because of his job, so it would not matter where I lived. I could visit and they could visit, no matter where either of us lived. It wasn't as if I could just pick up and move when they did. Also, my grand plan was at least 3 or 4 years away, depending on how things went at work.

Another event the year of my "Mimi-ness" was my Mother's death. She had not been totally well since breaking her hip two years before. Although my oldest brother and his wife were primary care-givers for her, my other brother and I helped a great deal. The stress and strain of driving 60 miles one way to help with her after teaching kindergarten was hard. So, on reflection, this event was actually the result of a previous event I guess.

Reflecting on that, I suppose leads into the last 3 years of my 20 year teaching career. I have to say that I love teaching. I love children and I especially love watching them learn. They are so curious and so eager to please. I just wish every one of them could have parents who loved them and would spend time with them and get to know just how wonderful and unique every single one of them is. Yes, even the one someone labels "the problem child". Back to the subject, year 17 was still good. Stressful, yes, because of personal circumstances. Stressful, because of curriculum changes. But on the whole at school, not too bad. We had the "Assistant Principal from Hades" and everytime I saw him coming toward me, I know my blood pressure went sky high.

Well, that's enough for one day. This blog is supposed to be a journey, nice and slow, not a marathon. ...Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
